Paige Reese is the young undertaker in Eastville, the county seat of Northampton County on Virginia’s beautiful Eastern Shore. She also acts as the ad hoc medical examiner for the county. So it falls to her to investigate suspicious deaths in the county.

Paige, and her occasional helpers, war-veteran Nott Smith, and pistol-packing Auntie Roo, find that identifying the victims is just, or more so, as difficult as finding the cause of death.
